I cannot get in touch with anyone at Gexa Energy. At this point, I'm going to send them a certified letter and dispute the charges with the credit bureau and PUC.

To Whom It May Concern, Gexa Energy,
I am writing to dispute the electricity bill I have received on Account# for $1,436.69. I originally signed up for the Energy Saver Plan in July 2024 due to our former provider raising rates. I was assured by the salesperson, Jose, who sold us the plan on 6/17/2024, that this plan was suitable for us and the energy we use.
In July, we received a bill for $173.78, even though our power was out for 5 days due to Hurricane Beryl. When I called to cancel, the lady assured me that our bill would be lower for August because we would have met the 2000 Kw and the price per kWh would drop to the low price advertised per plan. However, that did not happen! We received a bill for $1436.69. I called to cancel the account and was disconnected twice! We have never had an electricity bill this high in seven years of living in our home.
At that point, I switched to a different provider. I called to dispute the bill again, on 8/21/24 at 12:47 pm and spoke to Luis, who was going to waive the contract cancellation fee for $295.00 as well as have our meter reread since the amount of energy used didn't make sense. This never happened. I called again today, 9/6/2024, to dispute this bill, waited 15 minutes, only to be disconnected.
This company seems to be fraudulent. I couldn't get a resolution on why my bill is so much when I was assured that it was the perfect plan for us. The plan is also loaded with fees and taxes that are exorbitant, as well as they don't honor or follow through on investigating the issue. We feel that this was a bait and switch, a fraudulent plan, packed with fees, and deception.
I have spent literally days trying to get resolution on this bill and I am not getting anywhere. I would like Gexa Energy to waive all fees, as well as honor their plan. I will pay what I owe and be done and never use this company again! I also plan on filing complaints with the PUC. This has to stop.
Regards,
Layla Moody

They charge too much

AI Highlights
  • - Bills rise monthly despite efforts to cut costs.
  • - A $20 late fee with no grace period; rate advertised as $0.11 but charged $0.18.

Every month I do everything I can to keep my electricity bill down and every month it goes up higher and higher Even if I pay the majority of it and only have a few dollars to pay they would charge me an extra $20 because Im late, even if I called them And email them They dont care that I am elderly and low income At least other companies give you a grace Period. When you do talk to somebody they give you different answers no matter who it is you talking to Also, when I signed up, they said it was going to be $.11 per kilowatt hour and its $.18 so they lied about that.

User's recommendation: Do not choose gexa energy

My bill gets higher and higher every month

AI Highlights
  • - Bills rise monthly with a $20 late fee despite partial payment.
  • - Promised 11¢/kWh, but billed 18¢/kWh; early cancellation costs are a concern.

Every month my bill is higher and higher no matter what I do to keep it down I paid $150 out of the $189 I owed but because I was late, and mind you, I paid the majority of it I only owed 38 more dollars, they dont take that into consideration so they charge me an extra $20 because I was late even though I called them and messaged them.. I was told I would only pay $.11 a kilowatt but Im paying $.18 I just want off this company but I dont have the money to pay their stupid bill for early cancellation Not only am I a senior I am also low income and they dont care I dont know why I have to go through that from month after month At least the other companies gave you time to pay the bill, but not them they want their money now or theyll keep charging you

User's recommendation: Do not go with Gexa

JUST BAD COMPANY DON'T USE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AI Highlights
  • - Customer says they were billed for a paid bill and charged an early termination fee after a month-to-month contract, with language barriers.

To whom this may concern, I am just disgusted with how you people treat your customers I have tried over and over to clear this matter to no avail seems nobody cares to listen, you are charging me for a bill I already paid for, and also trying to attach to that for an early termination fee, when I never signed another contract with your company, because I was in a month to month contract after it expired, I got on the phone with people waited and argued the point with people I could hardly understand because of a language barrier it appears they are not even in the USA, more like Asia.

Preferred solution: Apology

User's recommendation: DON'T USE THEM!!

I call on a Regular basis about their inconsistency

Original review Jul 11, 2021

So my bill is NEVER due the same time like normal companies yet the customer has to carry the burden of inconsistency in the part of Gexa. I pay my bill first check of the month, consistently.

With TXU my bill due date was adjusted to be due 2nd week.

No Gexa sends a DISCONNECT notice 3 days after the bill is due, no grace period and charges a late fee immediately even though we cant budget because the bills never come at the same time. Im over paying an extra 10~15 bucks extra and refuse to.

Pros:
  • Have decent prices initially
Cons:
  • No tracebility and accountability of a customer issue

Preferred solution: Stop charging people two days after the bill is due when you cannot even read the meters at the same time every month you’re making hand over fist money

User's recommendation: Go with TXU

RIP OFF - HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - Poor customer service; contract renewal increased bill by over $80.
  • - Switched providers; now billed $487 with $303 cancellation fee and 5% interest.

Horrible customer service! Renewed my contract and bill went up over $80, and renewal just started 7/21, so new contract wasn't even effective a full month.

Tried calling about this, rep supposedly could not find bill I was referring to. After numerous go-arounds, finally requested a Supervisor. Of course, not available. "Will call you back tomorrow," Guess what, NO CALL.

After 4 more calls, and NO SATISFACTION, - switched providers. Now getting a bill for $487, which includes a $303 cancellation fee, and they are going to charge 5% interest if not paid in full by 9/7.

I'll pay actual bill - they can stuff cancellation fee. DO NOT SIGN ON WITH THEM

Cons:
  • Ads does not reflect the truth
  • Business practices
  • Poor customer support when problems arise

Preferred solution: Price reduction

Terrible Customer Service and Errors

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - The US call center mismanaged my move with wrong transfer dates.
  • - Repeated attempts failed; the company hides US numbers, making help hard.

You can't even get a human in the US to fix problems. Their call center completely messed up my move, several times.

Did not transfer service at the right date and turned off my existing service on the wrong date (even though I explained everything in detail twice and asked them to confirm what they were going to do). The dates were not even dates we discussed. Then no one at the call center fixed it for several attempts. The company hides their US numbers so you can't even get real help!

Don't buy from this company if you value your time, money, and energy (no pun intended). at call

Severely Overcharged!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - I have lived here nearly 10 years and bills were never over $200.
  • - Gexa bills hit $380 and $400; plan expired at $.14/kWh, $.18/kWh after I switched.

I have lived in this house for almost 10 years and never had a bill over $200. Their plan should have saved me money but somehow my bills were always higher.

My last two bills with Gexa were $380 and $400! The last I checked they had me at $.14 kw off plan, because it had expired.

I found another provider and changed companies. My last bill was charged at $.18 per kw to stick it to me on the way out!

Preferred solution: Price reduction

User's recommendation: Steer clear. Your bills will increase.

I just received a bill. I did not sign with gexa but with TXU. Don’t understand

AI Highlights
  • - I was billed by Gexa even though I signed up with TXU.
  • - I’m moving and don’t want charges from both providers—could this be about early exit fees?

Why am I getting billed from gexa? I signed up with TXU.

It seems arbitrarily they have my provider as gexa even I signed up for TXU. Im moving and I hope I dont get billed from both.

Im sure I will be on the phone with them for hours trying to get this resolved. Is this their way for collecting early contract release fees?

User's recommendation: At this point I do not recommend. Will call them Monday and see what they say

Horrible service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - Account numbers changed, causing 2 months of payment delays.
  • - Bank says payments are on time; disconnect notice cites Gexa/account-number changes.

They changed account numbers and for the past 2 months, somewhere somehow, my payments have not been processed on time. Payments are made by my bank and I had the bank speak with Gexa.

Checks are being issued by my bank in plenty of time for processing - They sent me a disconnect notice and want for me to give them until the day of disconnect to call them back. I am beyond amazed at their stupidity and lack of customer service.

It is a Gexa issue and appears to have something to do with the changing account numbers. Done with them.

Preferred solution: To have competent customer service reps
